SPRINGDALES SCHOOL

JAMMU, J&K

Construction Area: 12500sqm

Capacity: classrooms & labs (playgroup to class xii), auditorium, library, open air theatre, sports & leisure

The institute is situated within an army cantonment precinct, in Lower Barnai, Jammu; well surrounded by lush greenfields.

The design incorporates a variety of passive & active environmental strategies and will be used as a test bed for sustainable technologies that will be explored for implementation at the city level.

Following the linear site-line, the ā€˜Lā€™ configuration; with one of the segments on stilts, comes within. The form is placed at the south-west edge keeping the playground at north-west, thence shaded for the maximum day hours.

The space within the building is porous with numerous interactive spaces in the form of bridges, cantilevers, skylights, staggering blocks. It is developed through & along the nature. Elements like ramps, sculpted facades, open air theatre & sports facilities over the terrace, encourage students walking and appreciating our own ontological behaviour while being part of such outdoors.
